At PHAME, we believe art is for everyone. Our students bring unmatched creativity, dedication, and heart to everything they do—from performing on professional stages to exploring new artistic mediums in the classroom. As Executive Director, you’ll be at the forefront of a movement that is changing lives and reshaping the arts landscape in Portland and beyond.

Position Overview

  • Title: Executive Director

  • Location: PHAME Office, NE Portland (In-person with occasional remote flexibility)

  • Type: Full-Time / Exempt (1.0 FTE, 36 hours/week)

  • Salary: $105,000 – $120,000, commensurate with experience

  • Benefits: Generous PTO. 100% employer-paid medical and dental insurance. Relocation assistance available.

  • Reports to: Board of Directors

  • Start Date: Fall 2025

Why This Role Matters

PHAME is at a thrilling point in its evolution. We’re wrapping up a major capital campaign, preparing to relocate, and expanding our reach in Portland’s arts and disability advocacy communities. We’re looking for a leader who is equal parts strategist, storyteller, and fundraiser—someone who can drive vision while building deep relationships with students, staff, donors, board, and partners.

The Executive Director is PHAME’s primary external voice and an internal force for culture and collaboration. In this role, you’ll guide a talented, mission-driven team and will shape the strategic path forward. You’ll also be a key player in championing disability inclusion in the arts—locally and nationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead PHAME’s strategic planning, fundraising, vision, and organizational growth

  • Oversee the final stages of our capital campaign and building transition

  • Cultivate relationships with donors, funders, and community partners

  • Supervise a dynamic leadership team and nurture an inclusive staff culture

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors on mission alignment and governance

  • Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of PHAME’s programs and operations

  • Play an active role in program planning and execution

  • Represent PHAME in the broader arts and disability communities

  • Champion innovation, access, and equity across all organizational initiatives

Ideal Candidate

This role is for someone who thrives at the intersection of leadership, creativity, and advocacy. We’re looking for a person with:

  • Experience leading (or leading within) complex organizations, especially in the nonprofit sector (minimum of five years management experience including responsibility for hiring and performance management)

  • Proven success in fundraising, especially major gifts, foundation grants, and capital campaigns

  • A passion for the arts and a belief in the value of people with I/DD

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and build inclusive culture

  • Demonstrated skill in strategic planning, community engagement, and stakeholder stewardship

  • A calm, clear-headed approach to problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution

  • A commitment to equity, accountability, and transparent communication

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary range of $105,000–$120,000

  • 36-hour full-time workweek and generous paid time off

  • 100% employer-paid medical and dental insurance

  • 11 paid holidays plus three floating holidays

  • A passionate, joyful team that values your voice and vision

  • The opportunity to lead a nationally recognized, beloved organization at a pivotal moment
