Matthew Gailey moves to the Oregon Symphony

After 11 wonderful years here at PHAME Academy, Matthew Gailey, our Director of Arts and Education, will be leaving PHAME for a new position at the Oregon Symphony.  Matthew will be the new Director of Education and Community Engagement there, bringing symphony musicians and the music they make out to schools, underserved populations, and the general greater Portland community.

Matthew has made an indelible contribution to PHAME for the last decade.  His musical acumen, his gift for teaching, and his dedication to inclusion for people for with disabilities in the arts have been greatly appreciated and will be sorely missed.  He encouraged and discovered the inner artist in all of our students, and has deeply changed lives in his work in our performance and our education programs.  His dynamic presence and encouraging spirit have been transformative.

Matthew says “It’s been an incredible journey these past 11 years working with the amazing staff and students at PHAME.  I’ve enjoyed my time immensely and look forward to seeing where PHAME goes from here.  I also look forward to future collaborations with Oregon Symphony and PHAME, and to continuing to advocate for equity in all arenas in the arts.”

We will be celebrating Matthew’s tenure at PHAME at our Film Festival on August 28—join us as we lift a glass and sing a last song with Matthew at Alberta Rose Theater.
